About this activity

The Sacred Valley + Maras Moray tour is the most complete single-day exploration of the Cusco region: in one departure you cover the Inca agricultural research site of Moray, the 5,000-pool Maras Salt Mines, the living Inca town and sun temple of Ollantaytambo, the largest terrace complex in the Inca Empire at Pisac, and the ancestral weaving traditions of Chinchero — plus a buffet lunch in the Urubamba Valley. Most operators sell the Moray + Maras circuit as a half-day tour at $40–150 USD and the Pisac + Ollantaytambo circuit as a separate half-day. We combine both in one full day at $40 USD per person including the buffet lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Sacred Valley + Maras Moray tour cost?

The tour service — transport, guide and buffet lunch — is $40 USD per person (shared service, max. 20 people). You purchase the Boleto Turístico Parcial (~S/. 70 / ~$19) and Maras entrance (~S/. 10–20) at the sites. Total all-in: approximately $62–64 USD. Alpaca Expeditions charges $150 for a half-day covering only Moray + Maras + Chinchero, without Ollantaytambo or Pisac.

What is the difference between this tour and the Sacred Valley of the Incas tour?

The Sacred Valley of the Incas tour focuses on the core Sacred Valley archaeological circuit — Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero — with deeper coverage of each site. This Sacred Valley + Maras Moray tour adds the southern Moray + Maras circuit as the morning component, covering more total ground in one day. If your priority is depth at Pisac and Ollantaytambo, the Sacred Valley of the Incas tour is better. If you want to cover the complete circuit (both agricultural/resource sites AND the architectural/urban sites) in one day, this is the right tour.

Which Boleto Turístico do I need?

The Partial Boleto Turístico (BTP, S/. 70 / ~$19) covers the four Sacred Valley sites in this tour: Moray, Ollantaytambo, Pisac archaeological zone and Chinchero. Buy it at the Moray entrance on arrival or at the Cusco BTP office on Avenida El Sol before departing. If you already have the General Boleto Turístico (BTG, S/. 130), all four sites are included — you only need the Maras entrance (~S/. 10–20 separately).

Is this tour suitable for my first day in Cusco?

Yes. The highest point is Chinchero at 3,762 m (362 m above Cusco), and the lower valley sites (Ollantaytambo at 2,792 m) are actually at lower altitude than Cusco. Many visitors feel better breathing at Ollantaytambo than in the city. No serious altitude acclimatization is needed for this tour.

Can you drop me at the Ollantaytambo train station for Machu Picchu?

Yes. If you have a train ticket from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes (for Machu Picchu), we can drop you at the train station at the end of the Ollantaytambo visit. In this case, you skip the Pisac portion of the tour. Inform us when booking and we will adjust the schedule to match your train time.

Is the buffet lunch included?

Yes. The tour includes a buffet lunch at a local restaurant in Urubamba (~12:15–13:15 hrs) — soups, Andean main courses, salads, dessert and hot drinks. This is a full sit-down meal, not a snack. Vegetarian options are available; inform us when booking for specific dietary requirements.

How long is the tour?

Approximately 13 hours total (06:00–19:00). This is a long day, typical for any tour that combines all Sacred Valley circuits. The pace is relaxed — the guide does not rush. Rest time is built into the lunch hour and during vehicle travel between sites.
