About this activity
The Cusco Classic Tour 4 Days 3 Nights packages the three defining experiences of the Cusco region — the Inca city itself, the viral mineral rainbow at 5,200 m, and the most famous archaeological site in the Americas — into a single structured itinerary at $600 per person. Includes 3 nights in a 3-star hotel with daily breakfast, all guided tours, the Expedition train to Machu Picchu, and the Rainbow Mountain buffet lunch.
The itinerary follows a deliberate acclimatization ladder:
– Day 1 — Cusco City Tour at 3,400–3,700 m: city-level introduction, minimal physical demand
– Day 2 — Rainbow Mountain at 5,200 m: your most challenging day, tackled after one night of acclimatization
– Day 3 — Machu Picchu at 2,430 m: well below Cusco, your body at full oxygen capacity — the physical and visual reward day
– Day 4 — Free morning: optional add-ons or departure
Most competitors’ “classic 4-day” packages use the Sacred Valley (Pisac + Ollantaytambo) as Day 2. We use Rainbow Mountain. The difference is intentional and meaningful — explained below.
Why Choose This Tour?
- Cusco City Tour — Qoricancha, Cathedral, 4 Inca ruins

- Expedition train Ollantaytambo → Aguas Calientes
- Machu Picchu (2,430 m) — 2-hour guided circuit
- 3 nights hotel in Cusco with daily breakfast

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Rainbow Mountain worth the early start at 03:30?
Yes. The early start is necessary to reach the trailhead by sunrise and complete the 8 km hike before afternoon clouds develop over the Ausangate massif. The golden light at the summit between 08:00 and 10:00 produces significantly better photographs. The effort — 820 m elevation gain at 5,200 m — is the main challenge. Visitors with good Cusco acclimatization (1+ nights in Cusco) complete it comfortably. If you have respiratory conditions or arrive in Cusco the same day, consult your doctor.
Can the 4-day itinerary be done in a different order?
The current order (City Tour → Rainbow Mountain → Machu Picchu) follows a deliberate acclimatization ladder: 3,400 m → 5,200 m → 2,430 m. Reversing it is possible but reduces the safety margin for Day 2 at altitude. If you specifically need a different order (train schedule, personal preference), inform us at booking and we will evaluate feasibility.
What hotel is included?
3 nights in a 3-star or equivalent hotel in Cusco's historic center, within walking distance of the Plaza de Armas. Rooms include private bathroom, heating, WiFi and breakfast. Upgrades to 4-star boutique hotels in colonial mansions are available at additional cost — ask when booking. Note: the package does not include a night in Aguas Calientes (unlike some competitor packages) — Day 3 returns to Cusco by the evening train.
Does this package include the Sacred Valley?
No. This package uses Rainbow Mountain as the Day 2 activity rather than the Sacred Valley. If you want to add the Sacred Valley (Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray, Maras) to your trip, book it as a standalone tour on a separate day: Sacred Valley + Maras Moray tour for $40 per person.
Can I add more days?
Yes. Common extensions:
- Add Sacred Valley as a Day 5 experience ($40 additional)
- Add Humantay Lake as an extra day (different acclimatization profile — 4,200 m)
- Add the Inti Raymi package if traveling in June
See the Cusco Tradition and Adventure 4 Days for an alternative package that substitutes Sacred Valley for Machu Picchu.
Is the Machu Picchu ticket confirmed when I book?
Yes. We reserve your Machu Picchu entrance ticket at the time of package booking. Circuit 2 is our standard; if unavailable for your date, we offer Circuits 1 or 3 at no additional cost. Machu Picchu daily visitor quotas have been enforced since 2019 — booking 30+ days in advance is strongly recommended for May–October travel.
What if it snows at Rainbow Mountain?
Snow at Vinicunca is most likely from December through March. If heavy snowfall or adverse conditions make the trail dangerous on your Day 2, we reschedule the Rainbow Mountain to another day in your itinerary or substitute Humantay Lake (4,200 m, equally dramatic). We monitor trail conditions the night before and will inform you if adjustments are needed.
