About this activity

The Cusco Tradition and Adventure 4 Days is the most complete Cusco-region itinerary that does not include Machu Picchu: 4 days across the city ruins, all 6 Sacred Valley sites, the turquoise glacial lake at Humantay (4,250 m) and the mineral-striped summit of Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m). Three lunches included.

At $119 per person, this is a tour-services package (transport + guide + entrances + 3 lunches). Hotel is arranged separately. Comparable operators charging $975 for 4 days (happytovisit.com) include Machu Picchu — the train, Machu Picchu entrance and overnight in Aguas Calientes account for roughly $700–800 of that difference. This package delivers the four days that matter most to travelers who have already seen Machu Picchu, travelers who want to save it for a future trip, or travelers specifically drawn to the Cusco region’s natural and archaeological landscape.

Why Choose This Tour?

  • City Tour — 4 Inca ruins (3,400–3,800 m)
  • Sacred Valley — 6 sites: Chinchero, Moray, Maras, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, Pisac
  • Humantay Lake — turquoise glacier lake at 4,250 m
  • Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca — 5,200 m, 5 mineral colors

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Machu Picchu included?

No. This package is deliberately designed without Machu Picchu. For a 4-day package that includes Machu Picchu, see the Cusco Classic Tour 4 Days 3 Nights ($600, with hotel). That package uses Rainbow Mountain as Day 2 and Machu Picchu as Day 3.

Why is this package non-refundable?

The tour services are booked and confirmed at reservation — guide assignments, transport slots and Rainbow Mountain trailhead access are reserved for your group. Unlike Machu Picchu tickets, these are not individual government-issued permits, but late cancellations leave empty seats that cannot be resold. We require the non-refundable policy to maintain the logistics for confirmed groups. We strongly recommend travel insurance.

How physically demanding is this package?

Days 3 and 4 are genuinely demanding: both involve 8 km hikes with significant elevation gain at 4,250 m and 5,200 m respectively. Required: moderate fitness level, good altitude acclimatization (2+ nights in Cusco before Day 3), and proper gear. Heart or respiratory conditions: consult a doctor before booking. Days 1 and 2 are moderate — city walking and valley touring.

Can I change the day order?

Yes, within limits. The recommended order is medically optimized for acclimatization. Swapping Days 1 and 2 is harmless. Moving Rainbow Mountain to Day 1 or 2 is possible but significantly harder physiologically — we will inform you of the acclimatization risk and confirm you accept it. Discuss your preferred order at booking.

Can I add Machu Picchu to this package?

Yes, as a Day 5 add-on. Book the Machu Picchu Full Day tour ($100–150 approximately, train + bus + entrance + guide) for the day after Day 4. Note that this creates a 5-day sequence with Day 4 (Rainbow Mountain, 5,200 m) followed by Day 5 (Machu Picchu, 2,430 m) — the altitude drop to Machu Picchu after Rainbow Mountain actually feels very comfortable.

What if it snows at Rainbow Mountain?

Snow at Vinicunca is most common December–March. If heavy snowfall makes the trail unsafe or obscures the colors, we substitute with an alternative high-altitude experience (Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain at 4,900 m — similar colors, shorter hike) or reschedule. We monitor trail conditions 24 hours in advance and will contact you if adjustments are needed.

What is Soraypampa and why does the Humantay day start at 04:30?

Soraypampa is the base camp of the Salkantay Trek, approximately 3.5 hours from Cusco. The 04:30 departure ensures arrival at the trailhead by 08:00, allowing the ascent in morning hours when weather is clearest (afternoon clouds develop at altitude from ~13:00). The early pick-up is non-negotiable for the best experience and photography.
