About this activity

The ATV Maras Moray tour combines two of the most spectacular sites in the Sacred Valley highlands — the circular Inca agricultural terraces of Moray and the cascading white salt pools of the Maras Salt Mines — on Honda TRX 250 quad bikes through Andean highland roads. Unlike standard van tours that drive you between sites passively, this circuit puts you on a quad at altitude on unpaved tracks with views of Nevado Verónica (5,682 m) and Nevado Chicón (5,530 m) on the horizon.

From $47 per person. happytovisit.com charges $49–59 for a similar ATV circuit using Honda 150cc bikes — and their format offers either Huaypo Lagoon or Moray as a route choice, not both. Our $47 tour covers Moray archaeological site AND the Maras Salt Mines in the same half day on Honda TRX 250 quads (larger displacement, more torque on highland inclines). Salt tasting with artisan chocolate is included at Maras.

Why Choose This Tour?

  • Moray — Inca circular terraces (15°C temperature difference between rings)
  • Maras Salt Mines — 5,000+ white salt pools, Qoripujio spring
  • ATV ride through Sacred Valley highlands (3,350–3,500 m)
  • Salt and artisan chocolate tasting at Maras
  • Honda TRX 250 quad bikes — larger than competitors’ 150cc models

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the entrance fee to Moray?

Moray requires the partial Boleto Turístico Parcial (BTP) at S/. 70 PEN (~$20 USD), valid for 2 days and covering Moray, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Chinchero and 2 Cusco city museums. You can purchase it at the Moray gate or at BTP offices in Cusco (Av. El Sol 103). The general BTP (S/. 130 PEN) covers more sites but is only worth it if you're visiting the full Sacred Valley circuit.

What is the entrance to Maras?

The Maras Salt Mines entrance is approximately S/. 10–20 PEN, paid directly to the Maras community cooperative at the gate. It is not part of the BTP tourist ticket. Cash in soles required — no card reader at the gate.

Can I go as a passenger on the ATV?

Yes. Children aged 13 and over can ride as passenger with an adult driver. A minimum age of 18 with a valid driving license is required to operate the ATV.

How experienced do I need to be to drive an ATV?

No prior ATV experience is required. The safety briefing and 10-minute practice session at Cruzpata is designed for first-time riders. The terrain on the Cruzpata–Moray–Maras circuit is unpaved highland road — not technical off-road terrain. Riders need to operate the throttle, front and rear brake, and steer around gentle curves. The guide rides alongside the group and sets the pace — nobody is left behind. The most common difficulty is altitude (3,400–3,500 m), not the riding itself.

Can I ride with a passenger?

The Honda TRX 250 is designed for a single rider. Children aged 13+ may ride as passengers if the operator has a dual-seat model available — confirm at booking. If traveling as a couple, each person requires their own ATV. All participants (riders and passengers) pay the full $47 per-person rate.

Is this the same as the ATV Maras Huaypo tour?

No. This tour visits Moray (Inca circular agricultural terraces, BTP required) as the second destination after the ATV circuit. The ATV Maras Laguna Huaypo tour ($35) visits Laguna Huaypo (glacial lagoon, sunken Inca city legend) instead. The routes and scenery are different — choose based on your interests: archaeology (Moray) or nature/lake (Huaypo).

What if it rains?

Rain coats are available on the vehicle. Light rain is manageable on the ATV circuit. In heavy rain we may adjust the order (Maras first, Moray second) or, in exceptional conditions, reschedule. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.

How physically demanding is this tour?

The ATV circuit is classified easy to moderate. Riding the quad is not physically demanding (throttle control only — no pedaling). The walking at Moray involves descending and ascending the terrace rings (~30 min, moderate incline) and walking along the pool paths at Maras (flat, 45 min). Altitude is the main factor: 3,400–3,500 m. Visitors who arrived in Cusco in the last 24 hours should consider the afternoon departure.
